Stan (1965, Aix-en-Provence, France) is a contemporary self-taught artist based in Cambodia. At 19, he left his home town for London (England) to pursue a career in the music industry, becoming a successful recording-mixing engineer.
The overlapping hues and shapes create a visual depth of space, resulting in vibrant works full of texture and rhythm. The term was coined by Daniel Lanois to describe Brian Eno’s ambient music while he was collaborating with him. The analogy resonates perfectly with Stan’s abstract style, color layers acting like sound layers: “It is improvisation. Not knowing what the painting is going to look like until something happens, until the color “riff” reaches some sort of inner coherence.”
